Grazing for next to nothing

Just a quick note for my Abbey reading friends, there are a couple of groups you should consider if making donations.  Western Watersheds Project and Center for Biological Diversity have filed a suit in US District Court for the District of Columbia that would force BLM and the US Forest Service to accurately reflect costs both administrative and environmental associated with the practice of grazing on public lands.  The suit is being fought against by Farm Bureaus from 11 states.

  1. Yep..been there, done that. I've heard all about this story and it's one sided. Gotta be there for both. I see the benefits of grazing as long as the cattle are moved. otherwise they compact the soil. But the MWR and others are studying if the grazing is mimicking what bison, deer, etc. would do otherwise. Is it, for example, helping the native grasses on X plot? Sooo....there you go.

  2. Thanks for the comment, the main point here, is that ranchers are using "OUR" land for a fee less than they could contract with private land owners. Even if it is a select few, they abuse the land and damage the watersheds by overgrazing and not controling the animals in riparian (ri·par·i·an adj \rə-ˈper-ē-ən, rī-\
    Definition of RIPARIAN
: relating to or living or located on the bank of a natural watercourse (as a river) or sometimes of a lake or a tidewater) environments...the main cover and food source for "OUR" wildlife. This is particularly true of the Southwest.
